Difficult news delivered insensitively

unknown
September 9, 2024
I was contacted on my mobile phone when I happened to be waiting in the bus station, it was the radiologist from the hospital following a recent scan. He said "are you sitting down"? I said I was, he said "you have asbestos on your lungs" and I was told to contact my GP. I was shocked and felt very upset and left alone with my emotions, I immediately called my son and he travelled from London. I do not think news like this should have been delivered in this way.

No clear procedure with Private hospital

unknown
September 9, 2024
I opted to go private and was given a private BMI hospital referral. I was told that my private surgeon and team would make contact with West Suffolk hospital to make arrangements for my medical procedure as my procedure had to take place at a location where there is an A & E department. But on me speaking with the West Suffolk Hospital myself there does not seem to be a clear procedure for this scenario, so the referral is being batted around and meanwhile the patient is left in limbo waiting.

Uncomfortable wait

Spent a very uncomfortable 14 hours in A&E, a comfortable chair to sit in would be helpful and the disabled parking is always full but care was good.

Discriminatory, unethical, negligent

colorectal
September 5, 2024
1. Gender discrimination due to inappropriate language used during consultation
2. Unethical practice due to failure to provide informed consent for treatment, inappropriate reference made in regard to risks of surgery and patient referred and pathologising language used towards the patient
3. Negligent practice due to ignoring self-report of severe side effects

The above issues were not experienced with other staff in the same department.

Was taken to A&E after overdosing,

I was taken to A&E by paramedics after overdosing, I'm 53 with complex emotional needs. I've already thanked the paramedics. I want to thank everyone who treated me with dignity and caring and want to apologise to the 5 security officers I threatened. I specifically want to thank a Portuguese security officer who took me outside for a chat and looked after me. Also the kind lady on reception who made me a cup of tea while I was crying.

When I fell and broke my shoulder initially I had my young baby with me but when I needed an operation it became much more difficult to have them with me but staff did all they could for as long as they could.

Good care

I broke my leg when my son was 6 weeks old and I was still breastfeeding so I needed to keep him with me while I received treatment. It was very difficult for staff, I understand as I couldn't really stay on a general ward and so I ended up on the children's ward and in my own room which was good. It may be needs thinking about for when mums need care with very young babies.

Maternity experience was great even though I couldn't follow the birth plan I'd hoped for as I needed to be induced but the midwives were really great and I couldn't have asked for better care.

Care is good

The care I receive from the Eye Clinic is good and the specialist nurses have been wonderful, providing great advice. I've had 6 monthly check ups and have now had cataract operations on both my eyes. The portal for the hospital works well and has good information on it.
