A & E and Fracture clinic.

I fractured my foot at home and went in to A & E; they x-rayed, which showed the fracture. They gave me a boot to wear. I went back in two weeks and they re x-rayed and changed the boot for a vellcro sandal/shoe.
Everything was was well explained and I was told to ring or go back if there were any problems

Excellent service and staff but delays in diagnostic tests.

The service was great, staff were always around. During my stay in hospital it took a while to get blood tests results back. Staff often said they would be back but didn't come and I was told I would have an x-ray but nothing happened for the whole weekend and it was finally done on Monday

In each case I have been very well looked after and the appointments have been seen on time. The staff have been helpful but I feel sorry for them seeing some of the other patients who are less than polite and seem to be looking for things to complain about. I have had visits now for one or two small problems healthwise and have had letters back within a few days giving future appointments.

Poor discharge procedure

Ward T9
April 4, 2017
Patient on palliative care with syringe driver was discharged very late from hospital , or ambulance was late. He arrived at care home on Friday at 20.10 hours poorly and thirsty, with syringe driver due in 10 minutes. His syringe driver could have run out in the ambulance.

This appointment was for our adult son, who has a learning disability, in preparation for eye (day) surgery in 3 weeks' time. The orthoptist told us that nursing staff who would usually carry out pre-op checks were not there that day and she had expected our son's appointment to be cancelled. However, as we were there - and to minimize any inconvenience to us - she went ahead with her own checks, inviting two trainees (with our permission) to observe and check for themselves. It was all very professionally dealt with. The orthoptist referred our son to the consultant and he was seen within a few minutes to sign consent.form and have the forthcoming procedure explained. We left feeling well-informed and our son reassured. A good outcome all round

Poor communication and access to regular medicine

April 4, 2017
Medication not given. Went in for an operation with all my medication, but it remained locked in my bedside cabinet during my whole stay even though I requested it many times. Not having the medication straight after my operation caused some complications which were not needed when going through an operation. Sorting it all out post surgery was difficult. There seemed no thought by staff to give regular medication as required or asked for. My notes also did not say I needed medication even though this had been thoroughly discussed prior to the operation

Poor

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

Having treatment but the initial appointment was cancelled. I attended the second but the x-ray machine was broken so it was a wasted trip. A third appointment for the x-ray took place and then I was booked to go in again but his has just been cancelled and re- arranged for late April. Staff are really nice when you get to see them. Having appointments cancelled causes a lot of extra work and arrangements to be made and re-made. At this point I've had very little information or explanation of what is wrong

Organisation could be better

March 24, 2017
My GP arranged for a bed to be available for pre admission scans but on three occasions, on arrival, they did not have one available. I came back on the third day for an MRI and once on the ward and admitted everything was ok. I was then transferred to Ipswich hospital.
