Awkward online referral form

Even at 9am the appointments can be running behind but staff have been great and have sensitively handled topics that needed discussing. It feels like something has reoccured and I've previously had a spinal block but the physio doesn't think this is the same issue. I did find the online self referral form a bit awkward to use.

I've found the whole self referral process has worked really well and I was seen really quickly. They gave exercises to do and I can now go back to them over the next year if anything gets worse again.

I self referred in to the service after speaking to my GP. I was given exercises to do before my first appointment and have my first session planned for this friday. I understand I have to go through the process before I can be referred for a scan that my doctor thinks I will need. All contact so far, although a bit limited has been good.

After first referring to the service I seemed to go round in circles with basic physio but nothing ever improved. It took 18 months for me to be referred for an MRI which showed the issue I had couldn't be helped with physio and needed an operation. Luckily I was operated on quickly and now receive follow up physio at the hospital including hydrotherapy. I don't feel that it should've taken this long to be referred for the MRI and would've meant quicker treatment.

I had a problem with my right shoulder and I was referred to physio in Newmarket. The physio lifted my arm and there was a loud crack and I made a noise as it hurt me, I did not go back as I felt that I went on to have ongoing problems since that point, left leg numbness and other shoulder issues, I eventually had to pay to go and see an osteopath to try to get something sorted out. I'm afraid I wouldn't use them again. I saw my GP and told him about my experience but he made no comment.

Initially I did not receive an appointment but after waiting about 6 weeks was asked to fill in a form about my experience. Eventually when I was seen my musculoskeletal problems most uppermost for me were different to those of my original self referral form, I was told that only the problems I had originally self referred with could be attended to - but the physio on seeing my distress did try to give some advice on other problems but I sensed she was uncomfortable with this as it was against protocol.

Self-referral and had 6 sessions but able to access the service if issues come back within a year. It does however, have to be the same issue, if a different issue, even if related, you have to start again. All this however, was explained well and I found the whole experience good and professional

20 years for anything to be done so spent so long in pain. New pain, seen in a matter of weeks.
