It was excellent

It was excellent. The receptionist could be more welcoming but you couldn't fault the service. They went to endless trouble.

A&E nursing staff very good

Accident and emergency services

I was taken to A&E last and was placed in a cubicle but it was very cold. I did have a blanket but this was not enough. Every time the doors opened to the department it made it really cold. Also, once I'd been seen they didn't close the curtains each time they came in and out. After four hours they released me after checking I hadn't had a heart attack. The nursing staff however were very good and the cubicles in the Garrett Anderson were very good.

Specialized diet was difficult

unknown
June 3, 2016
My husband was put on a no fat diet by his consultant during his stay in hospital but the dietitian and caterers really struggled to provide an adequate diet while he was in for 3 weeks. He ended up having mainly salad which was very limited. One day it was lettuce with one slice of cucumber cut in quarters and a tomato. Doctor wise they were great and really couldn't be faulted.

Many thanks for taking the time to leave your comments, I have spoken to the catering department who have looked at the process for ordering special diets, however without specific information regarding the patient concerned it is very difficult to give a detailed response. We will always work with the dietetic and ward teams to provide a solution for special diets. I am sorry on this occasion it has obviously not worked.

Lost in the corridors - poor Signage

Imaging
June 3, 2016
Attended Ipswich Hospital with my partner yesterday. I am a Medical PA with over 30 years experience. Looked at the map - followed the signs for Ultrasound Dept. Kept walking and looking, trying to work out where we had gone wrong. Eventually cottoned on to the fact that Ultrasound Dept had mysteriously changed to Diagnostic Imaging. Could the signage please be uniform, and can they have it tested by people who do not know the hospital?

Thank you for taking the time to leave your comments. We are constantly updating the signage around the estate, both inside and out. I am sorry on this occasion it would appear that the signage is in need of some changes. I will pass your comments on the Estates team who look after signage around the Hospital.

I was sent to the hospital and there was no delay to see the knee surgeon. I was given lots of info on knee surgery so could make an informed decision.

No liaising between departments

Different departments don't liaise plus consultants prescribe medication that conflict with other medication I'm on. Waste of time and money.

Not good.

Ophthalmology
May 12, 2016
Actual surgery (cataract) could not fault. But aftercare is awful. I'm in need of second eye being done but apparently Ipswich has strict guidelines as to when it can be done. I'm really struggling with difference in visions between eyes. Optician thinks it will be 18 months before 2nd eye can be operated on. NOT GOOD.

Went to clinic to see dentist. Couldn't really understand what he was saying. Had x-ray. Told not to forget to notify haematology re platelets. Haematology said dentist should have contacted them re platelets, why couldn't have procedure done at dentist. Told being admitted to Stowupland Ward. Mustn't have anything to eat. Confused with letters as thought would be local anaesthetic.
