Pregnancy scan not done well

Maternity
April 20, 2016
I was 20 weeks pregnant having my scan and they were measuring the baby but because of the position he was laying in they couldn't measure his heart. They told me to come back the next week for another scan but he was still in the same position so they weren't able to see again. I was not asked to come back again and was told that his heart was beating ok. When my son was born he had a heart problem that should have been picked up during the scans. By knowing before he was born we could have planned and depending on how bad it was other treatment or options could've been available to us.

The staff were really good, especially at explaining what was happening. The wait was long but understandable and they were very thorough.

Not diagnosed properly in A&E

Accident and emergency services
April 19, 2016
My niece's daughter was rushed to hospital as she was having fits but after two days they discharged her even though she hadn't had the MRI or ECG they said she would have. After being discharged she was driven home to Kent and was taken to their local hospital after having more fits and she was diagnosed with epilepsy.

Consultants attitude was not great

Maternity
April 19, 2016
After two miscarriages I went in to hospital with another bleed but the response from the consultant was if I lost this baby then they would do further tests to investigate why I was miscarrying. Not reassuring or caring. The later explanation about what would happen at the delivery due to complications was good and having my daughter on the ward was good too. There were complications but staff explained everything very well.

A&E care and treatment received was very good

Accident and emergency services
April 18, 2016
Our doctor sent my son to A&E with concerns about how unwell he was. He was assessed in A&E and admitted to the childrens ward. The care and treatment received was very good and the follow up at home was good. They caught the meningitis just in time and were great with my son.

A&E missed my daughters broken leg

Accident and emergency services
April 18, 2016
We visited A&E three times in total. On the first visit they x-rayed my daughters leg as we suspected it was broken but they sent her home saying it wasn't broken but she was still unable to walk. The next day we went back again as she was still in pain and couldn't walk but they looked at the x rays again and sent us home. On the third day new x rays were taken and this showed she had two broken bones and needed a full leg cast. No one helped me with her either when I was trying to move her around and carry her even though I was heavily pregnant.

Oncology have been great

Cancer services
April 11, 2016
They are genuinely caring, you feel you are the only one. Lots of information is given and the layout of the room is great as it enables people to talk with each other if they want to. Having the allocated parking at £3 for 10 days for oncology patients which we applied for takes a lot of the stress out of the day. We were even asked what time of day we would like the appointments to be.

Personally I believe the consultants and nurses were very good at making me feel relaxed. Nurses were caring and very supportive. Treatment and procedure were efficient and made me feel safe. Room for improvement: Give them all a good pay rise!!
