Great support.

My husband has dementia and on our last visit to the dermatology department they were really great. I called ahead to let them know the problems my husband has which are associated with his dementia and they were extremely helpful. They made sure he was seen quickly so that he did not get worried and it made such a difference to the whole experience.

Seen almost immediately by triage at A&E

I was seen almost immediately by triage but have been waiting an hour to be seen since. It would be nice to be kept informed of the wait times.

Many Thanks for your comments, I am pleased that the triage system was effective in assessing your condition; estimated waiting times should be displayed on the TV in the Emergency Department waiting area. I have spoken to the department and they assure me staff will be reminded to leave this displaying times, reset the system if an issue occurs or report any permanent problems. If the TV is not working estimated waiting times should be given when the patient is in triage and again this will be reiterated to staff concerned.

After feeling unwell a person passing me called an ambulance which took me to A&E. I had had a heart attack and was admitted to the ward. I stayed for about a week and they closely monitored me during that time. I had an assessment before going home and I was collected by a support worker. I had all my medication given to me and they wrote down which tablets I needed to take when. The care was great.

Busy department but efficient

A nurse carried out the initial examination - she was distant and disinterested. There were several interruptions, people entered the room without knocking interrupting the tests with no apology offered. In stark contrast the scan operator and Consultant were attentive, informative, reassuring and caring.

When my husband needed an operation he had to visit for a pre admission check. I spoke with staff at the clinic saying that he would be visiting and that because he has dementia he would need to be seen quickly as he gets anxious if we wait around. On the day he was seen quickly and having the note on his file worked well.

Mixture of wards don't work so well, i.e. a mixture of young, elderly, dementia patients wandering around, drug users, noisy people etc. all on the same ward
