Diabetic eye clinic. Patient is also deaf. Inpatient at Ipswich 24 years ago. Now regular checks for eyes and feet. Not enough room for wheelchairs in the waiting groom otherwise care at hospital is great. Daughter cares for patient on Wednesday - hospital is good about making appointments for Wednesday. difficult to hear comments from helpline. if too many cancellations you have to go back to GP to be re-referred.

There is a growing onus on the carer to look after the patient who has had 5 eye operations .Pressure is not being trained or knowledgeable. What if there is no carer? Eye clinic is very busy, Looking after medicines, about detached retinas - will that affect his recovery. V.important to follow the rules This can be for 6 -8 weeks

Have been a patient for 11 years. On one occasion had to call to confirm appointment. Very helpful to get a reminder call. Used to use hospital transport bus but now get daughter to help. She is self employed
At one appointment doctor was interrupted 3 times.
Like the staff and their attitude - it's the system that struggles. When ther is continuity quality of service is v.good eg knowing eye pressure figures.
My children also receive service for eyes as a result of my care

If I'm told I need an appointment in 3 months time I may not receive it. When you get an appointment 1/2 will be cancelled and then rebooked. Once cancelled you then have to wait for a new appointment letter to arrive. When relying on family members to get me to appointments this makes things a lot more difficult.
Communications issues do exist and I do have some trouble understanding staff at times. You can wait anywhere between 1 and 3 hours for your appointment

I can wait up to 3 hours for my wife to be seen. When I asked they had lost the notes temporarily. If only they had told us of the staffing issues we would have been understanding. They do a good job and there is nothing wrong with the care we receive; it's just because it is so busy.
ou often have to see different practitioners within the department which takes time

Due to the number of people being seen by the clinic the waiting times can be quite long but this is not a big issue

Sometimes it is so very busy your visit can be 1.5 hours in total. The care though is very good. We are not always sure why we need to attend.

The last appointment I had in the clinic I had to wait 2 hours past than I expected. However, this was
more of an emergency appointment. The clinic is very busy due to the demand. Overall I'm very happy with how I'm treated. The waiting times are the only issue.
