Patient discharged too early from hospital

Geriatric Medicine
February 5, 2016
At 5pm a patient was discharged from hospital to the care home. She has dementia and it too 2 paramedics and 2 carers to get her into the wheelchair. When she was discharged her behaviour was significantly different to when she was admitted to the hospital and she had become quite aggressive. The home was told there were no changes they needed to be aware of but the change when she arrived home was noticeable immediately. We were not equipped or able to deal with this. Within an hour she had broken her hip and then went back to hospital. As carers we felt she should not have been discharged as the care home cannot provide one to one 24 hour care and this was not explained or discussed properly prior to her being discharged from hospital.

I saw the consultant and was discharged from the ward. Medication was ready but the referral to the physio did not happen so we self referred in the end.

Excellent

The staff were all brilliant. They gave me information when I needed it. The issue was when a feeding tube broke off when I was feeding myself. They couldn't fit another immediately so I had a nasal tube fitted. The reason this couldn't be done was not well explained. Overall I was very happy with the treatment I received and the aftercare.

good but car parking problems are stressful

Ophthalmology
February 5, 2016
double vision. Hoping for final appointments in 6 months. Also ref. operation on a tear duct. Appointments every 2-3 weeks. We have private healthcare but this has been a very positive experience throughout. Our problem is car parking - not enough spaces. It took us 1/2 hour to find a space and that was lucky. You have to arrive early because of this.

A previous appointment was cancelled because of the planned doctors strike on Dec 15 - albeit didn't happen. A friend supports the patient who is 93. Explanations are good when the friend is there to help. Eg: Last year a member of staff told the patient "in 3 years time you will have no sight at all." She was naturally shocked and stressed. As a result, she won't go on her own. This "message" was disputed at the following appointment

Great treatment at A&E

Accident and emergency services
February 4, 2016
My husband was taken to A&E by ambulance with a suspected stroke. He was taken straight in and staff kept us informed when things had calmed down. Staff were very good and he was taken to the emergency admissions unit quickly. Later in the day he was moved to a ward for 4 days. His speech was affected but physically he was ok. We were told that he would be referred for speech therapy but this never happened. Later in January this year when a muscular dystrophy nurse came out to visit she was shocked that he had not had any speech therapy so chased this for us. Since then after she prompted action, he has had weekly speech therapy sessions.

Good treatment, not so good follow up

Cardiology
February 4, 2016
Two days before Christmas I went in for a stent operation but during the operation they decided to abandon the surgery as they couldn't pass through the blockage in the artery. The care and treatment by staff was great but three weeks later I received a letter, which had my name wrong, inviting me to a physio appointment and discussion about diet and exercise. I have had these over the years so cancelled it. Now 6 weeks later I still haven't hear what the hospital will do about the stent operation that was cancelled. Surely something will be done, I was led to believe something would.

Hearing Aid repair

Ear Nose and Throat
February 2, 2016
Great Service, my hearing Aid quiet working this morning, I called for an appointment to have it looked at, luck was with me as there was a cancellation that day. I arrived for my appointment and was seen on time.
The young lady who repaired my Aid was very professional,
Great service today.
The only problem I encountered was finding a parking place.
