I am sorry that you had to wait to be seen we try to keep these to a minimum however unfortunately sometimes emergencies arise that cause delays in the clinics. I am sorry if this caused you inconvenience. Many thanks

I was really well looked after here. the Nurses were so kind, and although very busy they had time to speak to me regularly.

Generally good experience at A&E

Accident and emergency services
July 4, 2018
Referred to A&E from 111 service for an ankle injury. Couldn't bear weight on the foot. Saw triage professional after 3 hours of waiting, she seemed very rushed and I was in & out within one minute. I was hopping around on one leg so asked the triage nurse for crutches - was told I'd get them once the doctor had looked at me. Hopped back to my chair. After another hour my foot/ankle was assessed by a friendly and knowledgable doctor and I was sent for an x-ray. The first x-ray didn't capture all the areas the doctor needed to see, so I was sent back for a second x-ray. No fractures found so discharged with a leaflet about ankle injuries and some crutches.
General observations - lots of staff rushing around looking stressed and busy. Friendly receptionist and doctor. When waiting for x-ray lots of concerned patients repeatedly asking doctors asking how long it would be until they are seen & where are they in the list etc. This seemed to take up a significant amount of doctors time while they reasurred patients & went to check the patients notes to find out where in the queue they were.

Difficult to know who to contact

June 22, 2018
Generally very good but communication ries. When multiple departments are involved it can feel like no one wants to take responsibility for you and it's difficult to know who you should be contacting.

Great care

Care is great but communication does lack at times especially around discharge where it can be very unclear what is going to happen when.

Thank you for leaving your comments, I am sorry that your discharge wasn’t explained as clearly as your care and treatment and we are aware that the discharge procedure can sometimes take longer than we would all like. We are working towards reducing this as much as possible and welcome feedback on how it could be improved. Many thanks

Staff lack understanding

Cardiology
June 18, 2018
Staff had a lack of understanding about challenging behaviour on Claydon ward. We had a planned admission but on arrival with the patient who had a learning disability staff just handed jobs over to us with little explanation of what was needed. Staff were too formal and wouldn't spend time to get to know the patient and reduce fear and anxiety. Arrangements had been made and should've been in place when we arrived but they weren't. There appeared to be a lack of trained staff who were comfortable engaging with a patient with a learning disability. Full notes were provided about the patient but these were not read and staff were stand off ish. The theatre staff were excellent and allowed the patient to have support while being prepared for surgery. Prior to this experience the Heart team have been excellent and did all they could to make the experience as good as it could be, its just a shame it didn't go to plan.
