staff looked after me really well

Orthopaedics
February 1, 2018
In for a hip replacement. The staff looked after me really well. The food was not really to my taste over the 3 days, but it can't be to everyone's liking I guess. The Physio came in the morning after my operation, as I had the operation late in the day, and they were really good. I continue to recover well. It gives me confidence for when I need the next one doing. (Martlesham Ward)

caring staff communicated well

February 1, 2018
I had to go for an X-ray on my shoulder and it was really really busy and so naturally a very long wait (2 hours). However, the staff were really apologetic and were really good at communicating with us. We were told to go and get a drink and we would not lose our place in the queue. The nature of that service is that it can be very busy, but what helps is if the staff are good at communicating with you, and they really were very good at that and kind with it.

Induction cancelled at last minute

Maternity
February 1, 2018
I was consultant led due to my heart condition and so was told I would be induced on my due date. I turned up on that day and they said that they were now not going to induce me, and it should all be ok just to go home and let nature take its course. I was just really upset at the time, as I we worked ourselves up to that day and with other children had to put care in place. My baby did arrive only 4 days later and all of that was really good. They looked after us really well. I just felt the cancellation was a really awful thing to do at such short notice.

Information did not give full story

Neurology
January 30, 2018
I was sent a referral for 'Nerve conductive studies' and 'Electromyography' after I saw the Orthopedic specialist the week before. I was surprised to get the referral through so quickly. The letter came the day after I saw the specialist, which was really good. I had information enclosed about what to expect. On the day I turned up just before my appointment and it was running on time. The lady conducting the initial tests spoke to me about what was going to happen and said it is like small electric shocks and the intensity will increase. This was the case and for me, it was an awful feeling, particularly the one that was put straight through my elbow (funny bone area). The next part that the doctor did was with needles and was ok, just like acupuncture. Afterwards I felt very achy and struggled to get my jacket on. I became very hot too. I was not warned in advance that I could feel this way otherwise I would have had someone drive me. The staff member did say that my arms now will ache severely as I have just had the nerves over stimulated. I had to return to work, but again if I had known I could feel this way I would have taken time off work. I feel that the information provided in advance needs looking at, as it was not accurate.

I have had two knee operations over the course of the year (2017) and I cannot fault my care. They looked after me well from start to finish.

Poor and sometimes little care

Gastrointestinal and Liver services
January 28, 2018
Family member admitted. Notes relating to mental health not true, discrepancies and misinterpretation of happenings written down which were simply not true. Depending on staff on ward, friendliness and co operation and standard of care affected. Asked for help on several occasions, no one came back to us. Cleanliness of ward not brilliant, dust and dirt and old dressings with blood on them under family member's bed. Staff not careful when going through personal items.....ripped book and broke flowers in vase. Shortage of stuff to use for bed baths, water and toilet roll used. i just could not recommend this ward to anyone, sorry.

Epileptic Clinic

Epileptic Clinic: Found the interaction quite intense and the way I was spoken to quite inappropriate. Was asked questions about things I don't specialise in and she made me feel my position was inadequate. Felt intimidated.

No care plan

January 24, 2018
The patient was discharged from Ipswich Hospital in August 2017. It was a poor discharge - no information sent including discharge letter. No input from Eye Rehab Team over the weekend and Bank Holiday which meant special care could not be implemented - only basic care.Patient not able to transfer as informed, left very vulnerable.
