Permanent injury received
October 6, 2015
Permanent injury received From contaminated surgical equipment. I received a urinary infection , resulting in renal failure and septic collapse from a sisoscury examination of bladder cancer. On admission to hospital I was operated on during the procedure I was anaesthetised by epidural in my vertebrae. The contaminated equipment introduced E.Coli infection resulting in ulceration L3/L4 . Every day I suffer varying levels of extreme pain and walking from room to room in my home requires more than gritting my teeth, prior to hospital experience I was fully active. Since then every action is an effort of will. I am only here as I refuse to die.

Some of the staff were really helpful but others weren't as good and wouldn't help as much as I needed them too. Also had an allergy and made staff aware and thought I felt unwell even more since they gave me tablets, but then when I get sent home unwell still and no care in place I found out some of the tablets they had given me had milk in that I am allergic too I'm not happy at all with it.
Quick and compassionate care
Rainbow Ward (F1)

We took our 9 month old to A&E as he had breathing difficulties, we were seen in less than 2 minutes (although the waiting room was empty) and he was assessed by a nurse and doctor straight away. Our son was assessed and classed as needing oxygen and help to open up his airways so he was given nebulisers and hooked up to an oxygen tank. Once he was stable and his oxygen levels were back up to a level that the Doctor was happy with we were taken up to the Rainbow ward. We stayed in all weekend, received great care from lots of Doctors and nurses. The staff obviously care about their patients and they were more than happy to help us whether it was fetching a sick bowl for our son, making up his milk while he was having treatment or just offering to make us a cup of tea.
Lack of information

Childrens Eye Clinic. Child (b.2008) regularly attends appointments for severe astigmatism. Sees a variety of doctors/professionals. Each professional is warm and friendly and communicates very well with the young person. However, rarely do these professionals introduce themselves and explain what their job is. Appointments are organised 2/3 times per year. The child and parent are rarely told the purpose of each appointment (whether for eye test for prescription, eye health check, assessment with a consultant) or prepared when interventions (such as eye drops) will be used at forthcoming appointments and what each appointment is expected to achieve.

I had surgery for the removal of my gall bladder which went very badly-the second operation to repair my perforation of the bowel went much better.
Very good

The staff had time to listen. There were minor issues but they were dealt with promptly and I was made to feel comfortable. It was very clean and tidy and the staff were compassionate.

I had plastic surgery and the staff went above and beyond what I thought to be their duty to make sure that I was OK.

I have had three separate surgical procedures over recent years and I have been looked after very well each time.

My wife was treated for a heart condition but sadly she passed away. I was very grateful for the care and compassion showed by all the staff that helped me at that time

I have been under the care of the cardiac team and the gynaecology teams at different times and I have always had a very positive experience-never any problems.
