After years of talking to my GP about headaches it was a relief when I was referred to the specialist. They really listened to me and the treatment was very good and made a real difference.

The care at the hospital has been very good, the staff too have been friendly and explain everything very well.

DVT

I am a cancer apand attend for a scan for DVT. The hospital should provide a scan in these cases because of the elevated risk of DVT, but I was not offered this and was told that they did not feel the risk was significant enough. I was to wait for two weeks for the results from another hospital. I later found out that I had DVT and it had travelled to be a pulmonary embolism.
Discharged with out help

My wife was discharged from hospital nearly 18 months ago and it didn't go very well. There was little to no discussion about what was needed or available after discharge and we didn't receive any help once she was home. It was only when we contacted our own surgery that the nurses there sorted out more help and a small amount of physio for her.

Referral to the hospital seem quicker than to Ipswich and the clinics run smoothly and to time when you do attend. The waiting times at A&E even for children can be quite long but the care is good.
Better than in May

My last appointment was in August and I had less of a wait for my appointment than I had in May. In May I had to wait two hours from my appointment!
G9 was outstanding but G3 wasn't
Wards G9 and G3
September 24, 2018
My husband was in West Suffolk Hospital last year and sadly died there. Care and treatment were outstanding on Ward G9. He was moved to G3 for the final hours of his life and when we were there we were completely ignored. No one came to see him or me, he had no care at all, his incontinence pads were not changed until half an hour before he died. Then I had to wait for over an hour for a doctor to declare him dead.
Poor communication
General Surgery

I work with people who are inpatients at Wedgewood House (mental health unit) in Bury St Edmunds. When our service users have to be treated with West Suffolk Hospital for a physical disorder the discharge back into the mental health unit always seems disjointed and communication is poor from the hospital. These people are quite vulnerable and need more help than most when they are sent back.

The staff are very friendly. The way the clinics run is very good, very relaxed, not long to wait. Very happy. All been terrific.

I went straight in on arrival. I did however have an extremely long wait for transport to get back home.
