Seen quickly in A&E

Accident and emergency services
November 5, 2015
After going to my GP with concerns she told me to go to A&E to have the right sided weakness looked at. I was seen by the stroke team quickly on arrival, they did a CT scan and blood tests but ruled out a stroke. They weren't really sure what the issues were but did identify that I was dehydrated. I was in for 6 hours roughly and then I was discharged home although I would rather have stayed over night.

Great experience from start to finish

I arrived early at 12.00 and waited to be seen, saw the surgeon then the anaesthetist, I was the first to be seen and had my operation and was out in 3 hours. I had no complications so was discharged at just before 4pm. The staff were brilliant, the same nurse stayed with me from start to finish.

Quick, Clear, Evidenced

Stroke services

I had a problem with my right hand side, mainly in my arm and hand on Monday morning. I assumed sleeping on arm was the cause. GP chat, did not take offer of rapid assessment until Wednesday. On the Wednesday 10am I had full range of test, scans etc by 1pm. Had consultant appointment at 3pm, confirmation that a stroke had taken place. Received immediate medicine/advise on lifestyle changes to reduce risk. Unfortunately a third incident took place in June 2015 and the 'cause' is to be resolved. Appointment at the end of October yet to happen.

83 year old man went into hospital for a pre-arranged operation to remove a tumour on his bladder. The gentleman was extremely nervous as he has had a cancerous tumour there in the past and his mother died in hospital many years ago (London area). He turned up to the hospital at 7am on the Friday and was in the operation for 8.30am. His wife returned home, awaiting news.

By 2pm he was not yet in the ward, but still in recovery. The wife was told not to worry. He ended up in the ward at 5pm. He had had a heart attack during surgery and so was being monitored closely. The ward were amazing, looking after him well and the consultant and surgeon regularly met with him to explain everything. He was sent home on Monday after a heart scan showed there was no further treatment required.

The tumour was cancerous and they treated it directly with chemotherapy immediately. 'I intend to be at work tomorrow!' he said on the Monday.

I have had several visits to the hospital and can't fault any department I have been to and I'm a fully trained nurse. I've worked in various hospitals all over the world, good and bad. The other day my doctor contacted me to refer me to departments I'd not heard of before - such quality departments.

The hospital is good because from the top person to the cleaners, they are all wonderful. It is clean and the quality is outstanding.
